Two study days were run in September 2006 for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists working with people with HIV.
21 September 2006: An introduction to HIV for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
The aim of this day was to provide a comprehensive introduction for therapists moving into this clinical area or those who do not specialise in HIV but want to keep abreast of the latest developments.
A copy of the day's programme is here.
Feedback from participants was generally very positive.
Expectations were "definitely" met for 19/23 and "mostly met" for the remaining 4/23. Positive aspects noted included noting the range of experience and backgrounds of presenters and the depth of knowledge, and the quality of the handouts. Comments for improvement related to increasing the amount of interactive content/case studies/ activities or spreading the day over two days. There was an acknowledgement that the day was very full although we “wouldn’t want to remove anything”. Comments on which sessions were most useful / least useful were fairly evenly spread throughout the day’s sessions.
We are likely to run a similar date in 2008. If you would like to register your interest please contact Will Chegwidden.
22 September 2006: Networking and development day for HIV Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
The aim of this day was provide a forum for HIV OTs and PTs from throughout the UK to meet to share best practice and develop project-work relating to issues in common across areas and specialities.
This was the first time such an event had been held in the UK. It was very well attended with attendees from Scotland, the north of England, the Midlands and the South-East.
A copy of the day's programme is here.
There were four facilitated round table discussions in the afternoon and the notes from these session are summarised below. Round table discussions Student education and placement issues Outcome measures in Occupational Therapy and HIV Community rehabilitation and HIV From these round table discussions, working parties and project workstreams are being developed that are being contributed to by therapists from across the UK.
