The Special Interest Group is very interested in forging links with Occupational Therapists in other countries. HIV is a as we know is a global issue. We have previously had contact with therapists in Uganda, the United States, Sweden and Australia. A member of the OT HIV Special Interest Group, Will Chegwidden, and a member of the Physiotherapy HIV Clinical Interest Group, attended the World AIDS Conference in Toronto in August 2006. The group was very warmly welcomed by therapists from the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation (CWGHR) who have an excellent website here. The group hosted a number of fringe events at the conference. The conference was very exciting with over 4000 scientific and academic posters and presentations and 26 000 delegates. There is a suggestion that the fringe events could be expanded at the next conference in Mexico in 2008 to being a satellite conference day, like nursing and other professions do. It could be a satellite day for rehabilitation and work rehabilitation services. We would like to suggest forming a network of therapists working in this area across the world to discuss this issue and other issues we share like outcome measures, approaches to rehabilitation and meeting the education needs of undergraduates. If you are interested in being part of this network, please contact Will Chegwidden at Barts and the London NHS Trust in London. |
